Château de Frausseilles

La Maze

When the oenophile Ferdinand Count of Thun from Munich first saw the Château de Frausseilles in the forgotten region of Gaillac in southwestern France in 1999 he knew: This is where he wanted to produce top-of-the-range wine again – just like in the 12.-17. Century, when the region brought forth the most sought after wines in the world. A vision he has been pursuing ever since with his friend, the oenologist Dr. Riccardo Cotarella – with an uncompromising attention to detail and love for the terroir and the region. The name of the project: Comte de Thun.

Ferdinad von Thun & Riccardo Cotarella

The Gaillac is a region that was badly affected by the past. It looks back on 2,000 years of wine history – and has an incredibly huge potential. It’s on the unique Cordais plateau, the best terroir of the region, that Ferdinand von Thun, Riccardo Cotarella and their small team are highly successfully cultivating vine varieties such as Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Pinot Noir on 27 hectares: varieties that are offered perfect conditions for Grand Cru wines by the terroir.
